They call to me
from a land and a time long gone
from the depths of a snow-capped volcano
that gave me my first glimpse of snow
From a place where fire and ice
become the torrential rains
that feed the araucaria
They call to me
from the womb of a fertile valley
that spreads like a mantle
concealing the roots of my ancestors
Their bones
surface now and then
their souls leach out
salting the waters of streams
adding sweetness to fragrant apple blossoms
and bite to the apple wine
